Click to play videoNew York: External Affairs Minister S M Krishna ran into his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in New York Monday evening. The two leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.
This was their second interaction in the last five days. The two crossed paths in the parking lot of the UN headquarters on Thursday since the controversial joint press conference in Islamabad in July when Qureshi had accused Krishna of being remote controlled from Delhi.
Krishna told CNN-IBN that he had assured Commonwealth countries of the security of their delegations, but refused to say whether he and Qureshi would sit down for bilateral talks.
External Affairs Secretary Nirupama Rao said: "Our views are very clear. Our intention is to preserve with that dialogue. It is necessary because India and Pakistan are close neighbours. And there are number of outstanding issues. It's in the interest of our people and our future to tackle these issues and to have an intelligent dialogue on these issues."
Krishna also met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to lay the groundwork for President Barack Obama's visit to India in November. The two leaders discussed the Nuclear Liability Bill that was approved in Parliament. The US said it hoped to reach a solution with New Delhi on the law that regulates India's nuclear energy market, which some say will deter foreign investment.
Issues like fee hike in H1 visa were discussed and they talked about protective measures also. US raised its concerns over India's nuke liability measures.
Rao said that dailogue between the two countries continued on several issues.
