Chennai: A giant leap from one skyscraper to the next. If Spiderman could, so can Krrish, thanks to state of the art special effects that are being put together in Chennai at Prasad EFX.
It is a giant leap for Indian cinema too, because while an average Indian film has just about 200 shots digitally manipulated, the sequel to Koi Mil Gaya has broken the record with more than 1,200 shots being digitally modified.
Even the very minute details have been worked upon to blur the real from the virtual.
"There are a lot of new things I have attempted in this film that even Hollywood has not attempted. People who have seen the film say it's like Hollywood, you cannot say it's like Hollywood—it is Hollywood,” says the director of Krrish, Rakesh Roshan.
"It has been designed in such a way that visual effects is needed for that movie, it's not like you wanted some visual effects and they fitted it into the film," says Senior Line Producer of Prasad EFX, Kilari Himakumar.
With a stunt director from Hong Kong and visual effects supervisors from Los Angeles, Krrish was pre-planned to exploit the possibilities of special effects during post production.
The project also involved a virtual Hrithik Roshan doing stunt scenes in many parts.
"We had to take Hrithik Roshan, fly him to Los Angeles and scan him with the most modern equipments available today and put him into a virtual world,” says the Visual Effects Supervisor, Craig Mumma.
Krrish will be a first to have Tamil and Telugu versions release simultaneously with the original.
Meanwhile, it could be the birth of the first accomplished Indian superhero backed by special effects of international standards.
