New Delhi: Ratan Tata may have moved out of West Bengal, but there is an all out war in other states to host him in his attempts to produce the world’s cheapest car.
All state governments of Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh are going out of their way to roll out the red carpet. It is a race to host the Nano.
TATA Motors Managing Director Ravi Kant went flying around Bangalore and Hyderabad to find out what suits his company's interests more.
Accompanying him were the chief ministers themselves.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yedurappa took him to three venues in Dharwad district of North Karnatka and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Rajshekhar Reddy offered the Tatas 950 acres of free land plus complete exemption from value added tax for 21 years.
Yeddyurappa says, “Whatever the Tatas need, we're ready to provide – power, land, water. The proposed sites are at Gamanagatti, Durgadkeri, Garaj and Belur.”
Kant says, " We have come here for a meeting. After the tour, we will shortlist and then we'll come out with our final decision.”
Apparently, In Kolkata, the pain of seeing the TATAs leave Singur is still fresh.
West Bengal Chief Minister Budhadeb Bhattacharjee says, "Unfortunately we are facing a very irresponsible opposition and it has created a serious problem. But I believe that one battle is lost but not war."
Nano will be the world’s cheapest car. The focus now is just when will the Nano manage to be rolled out.
