K'taka runs to Centre for cover as monsoon fury unleashes

New Delhi: The Karnataka Government has said it will ask the Centre for nearly Rs 4,000 crore for flood relief.

It has asked for Rs 500 crore for immediate relief for those affected by heavy rains and floods in coastal and interior Karnataka.

Over 240 people have died since the monsoon season began in April, of whom 36 have died in the last week.

Crops across 84,000 hectares have been damaged.

Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy who held a high level meeting to review the situation has also decided to do an aerial survey of affected parts soon.
