Bangalore: Karnataka government on Monday decided to earmark 50 per cent reservation for women in all urban local bodies in the state. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda.
Women already enjoy such a reservation in zilla, gram and taluk panchayats. Briefing reporters, Law and Urban Development Minister S Suresh Kumar said relevant laws would be amended on the reservation issue.
In response to a question, the Minister said the Karnataka government is committed to implementing the Right to Education Act from the coming academic year itself.
Those who have done BSc (Forestry) would be given reservation in recruitment in Forest department and recruitment rules in this regard would be amended, he said.
