New Delhi: The Karnataka government, led by H D Kumarswamy completes an eventful six months in power on Thursday.
It was on February 3 that Kumarswamy, son of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda engineered a political coup to bring down the Congress-JD(S) government, brought together JD(S) and BJP and become the state’s youngest chief minister.
So how has his government fared so far?
It has been a bumpy ride for the coalition since it came to power.
The power-sharing pact between the JD(S) and the BJP, which propelled the latter from the ranks of the opposition to become a ruling partner for the first time in a southern State, came in for sharp attack from the Congress, which questioned the JD(S)’ "secular credentials" and the status of the legislature group led by Kumaraswamy.
On the development front, some crucial infrastructure projects like the Metro rail and the elevated highway project in Bangalore were flagged-off. However, after laying the foundation stone there's been little progress.
Several promises continue to languish on paper only like the promise of Rs 10,000 in cash for baby girls born to poor families.
Bangalore's ‘Silicon Valley’ also image appears to have taken a beating with no clear policies to help the Information Technology sector.
One of the biggest challenges for the Kumarswamy government is the corruption charge levied against the chief minister himself.
There has been a Rs 150-crore payoff allegation against him, and members of his family, the Home Minister and the Minister for Forests.
