Bangalore: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka Friday said it has not offered a party ticket to former Test captain Anil Kumble to fight the Lok Sabha polls from the state.
Sources close to the spinner also said that all that talk of his jumping into the electoral fray is baseless.”No, it has not been done,” state BJP spokesperson V Dhananjaya Kumar said when asked whether the party’s Karnataka election committee had recommended Kumble’s name to the BJP central leadership.
Sources close to Kumble said: “He is not contesting. He is not interested.”
“The ticket offer has not been made and nor does he want it,” the source said when asked whether the BJP has approached the former Indian captain to contest the poll.
“All the talk and reports about his contesting the elections are rumours,” the source said, requesting that Kumble and his family be kept out of such baseless speculation.
