New Delhi: The terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team outside the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore is a throwback to the heinous Munich massacre.
During the Munich massacre, members of the Israel Olympic team were taken hostage during the 1972 Olympics in Munich and eventually murdered.
The militants from Black September, a militant group reportedly with close ties with Palestine's Fatah organisation, entered the Games village and took Israeli athletes and coaches hostages.
Eventually a bloody battle ensued between the German security forces and the terrorists that resulted in 11 members of the Israeli contingent being killed by the militants.
Five of the eight militants were ultimately killed by the security forces.
