New Delhi: RJD chief Lalu Prasad will not find a berth in the new Cabinet. In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee said that Lalu may not be in and that 2004 and 2009 are very different.
"Every political party has its method and mechanism on how it interacts with other political parties. Therefore, if they want to have an interaction with the Congress party, naturally they will find a way out and Congress party has a system or a mechanism in which this is being dealt with substantially, in respect to the formation of the government by the Prime Minister and the Congress president. So, they will be dealing with it, as and when the situation demands," said Pranab Mukherjee.
"Lalu did not have any difference of opinion. I just mentioned a fact that in 2004 elections we had people adjustment with Lalu.In 2009 we do not have
that. Therefore, if the formation of government takes place, the situation
will not be exactly the same as five years ago," he added.
He also added that India will see a lot of young faces coming into the cabinet this time.
"As the Prime Minister said it, who will come and who will go, I do not know.As far as Mr Rahul Gandhi is concerned, Prime Minister has already invited and I also welcome him," Mukherjee said.
He also justified seat adjustments that Congress made for Mamata Banerjee and that reposed the party's faith in Trinamool Congress leader was, who he thinks is well versed with the Congress' way of working.
"We did not make any alliances on the basis of principles, we only made seat adjustments. She (Mamata Banerjee) will decide how she will work in the Central government. It is not so hard to imagine, because Central government has its own policies for the Cabinet and I do not visualise any problem in this. She has been a minister in 1993, she didn't complete her full term. But yes, she does know the policies and principles of the Congress. She was a minister then government of P V Narsimha Rao, so she is not unknown to the policies and principles of the Congress."
