The New Zealand left-arm quick, who has impressed in his short international career, will join Simon Katich as the club\'s overseas options for the T20 tournament.
Mitchell McClenaghan, the New Zealand left-arm quick, has been signed up by Lancashire for the Friends Life t20. The 27-year-old is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy with eight from two matches and will joined former Australia batsman Simon Katich as the club's overseas option for their T20 campaign that starts later this month.
"I am delighted to be joining Lancashire for the Friends Life t20," said McClenaghan. "I have enjoyed being part of the NZ tour of the UK and Champions Trophy squad so far and the opportunity to broaden my cricket experience by playing county cricket was too good to turn down. Lancashire are a club with a great history and tradition and I hope to be able to help them to T20 success this season."
McClenaghan has taken 18 wickets in 14 Twenty20 appearances, at an average of 18.72 and economy rate of 7.35. In the preceding three-match ODI series against England that New Zealand won 2-1, he snared eight wickets.
Lancashire's head coach Peter Moores said: "To have an international quality left-arm seamer joining us for the Friends Life t20 competition is very exciting and a real boost to the squad. The fact that Mitchell is coming straight out of international cricket in England means he will hit the ground running and his competitive nature looks a perfect fit for how we go about our cricket."
Lancashire open their Friends Life t20 campaign on June 28 with a match against Durham at Chester-le-Street.
