New Delhi: There is a message from the Delhi Police to all the landlords – if you don’t want another Parliament attack, then get your tenants verified.

But there is no need for the landlords to panic. All they have to do is to go to their nearest police station, fill a form, submit it and forget about the any trouble.

However, if they don't get their tenant verified, they could be arrested under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and be jailed for a month or be charged a fine of Rs 200.

Statistics show that in 2005, over 450 (486) landlords were arrested for failing to get their tenants verified. In 2006 over 400 arrests (406) were made.

On December 27, 2006, the Delhi Police Commissioner passed an order making it mandatory for all landlords to get their tenants verified. Acting on the order, police arrested 39 people in the last two days from across the capital and then released them on bail.

“We are taking measures to make sure that terrorists don't take shelter in the capital,” says Additional Commissioner Police, Delhi Police, Deeependra Pathak

The verification drive of the police was launched after the Parliament attack in 2001. But very few landlords have responded so far.

However, with new warnings of terror attacks, police wants to make the capital secure by passing the onus on to landlords and even cybercafe owners.

So landlords shouldn’t procrastinate filling the forms, and go to their nearest police station to help the police in their effort.
