In his telegram to Manmohan Singh, Karunanidhi said, "The atrocities of Srilankan Navy are continuing unabated, in spite of repeated assurances given by both Government of India as well as Srilankan Government".

He has also asked for immediate action against those responsible for the killing and demanded personal intervention of the Prime Minister for firm action to put an end to fishermen killings.

The state government has also announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the dead fisherman's family and a government job for one of the relatives of the victim.
