Last day to woo Maharashtra voters

Mumbai: Political parties are making last minute efforts to woo voters in Mumbai and 10 other places in Maharashtra before campaigning ends for Thursday’s civic polls.

Around 2 crore people will vote to decide the fate of over nine thousand candidates in fray for the one thousand one hundred and 62 seats.

The Shiv Sena with its alliance partner BJP seeks to retain power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the richest municipal corporation of the country.

Electronic voting machines will be used for the first time in these polls scheduled for the first of February. Votes will be counted the day after.

There are 227 seats in all, for which Shiv Sena has 155 candidates and BJP 72 candidates.

Elections will also be held for civic bodies in Thane, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Nagpur, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nashik, Solapur, Akola and Amravati.
