New Delhi: One of Delhi's most famous cinema halls, Chanakya, will screen its last show today.
City officials plan to auction off the two-acre plot, where Chanakya has stood for nearly 40 years.
After a five-year dispute, the theatre owners have turned the land over to the New Delhi Municipal Council.
The popular theatre will most likely be replaced by a multiplex and shopping mall.
The theatre has played its own part in cinema history. It opened in December 1970, with the premiere of Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker which the legendary film-maker attended himself.
