Mumabi: Ganesh Utsav is one of the biggest high points in most homes in Maharashtra. So, it’s no surprise that even the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar celebrates the festival every year with her family in Mumbai.
Like many others in tinsel town, Mangeshkar is a ganpati devotee and on evenings the entire household comes together for the daily aarti ritual of the elephant god.
“My father used to do Ganpati pooja when I was two or three years old. After that wherever I have gone, we have performed the pooja. Since I came to Mumbai I have been doing this pooja,” says Mangeshkar.
Every year, Ganpati is kept for 10 days in the singer’s house and she says that the festival always makes her nostalgic.
“Earlier on festivals we would do programmes. There used be programmes for children also, which would make me very happy. Once even Mohd Rafi came for a programme. Nowadays all that doesn’t happen but I make sure that Ganpati’s sthapana is done,” says Mangeshkar.
No wonder that the singer has also released an album called Sarvamangal Ganesh recently.
