Latur: Four college students have been arrested for allegedly abducting and killing a ninth standard student in Latur in Maharashtra.
The victim Suraj was the son of a Zila Parishad member. Police say the four suspects belonged to poor families and had conspired to kidnap him hoping for Rs 1 crore in ransom.
Suraj's friend, Yogesh Piple, studying in a local college, accompanied by Kishor Datar, Balaji Barkate and Vilas Adawade, took him to a nearby 'dhaba' (roadside eatery) on Saturday evening.
They had their dinner together and after that they forced Suraj to accompany them to Navkund Zhari village, where they strangled him and stuffed his body in a sack and threw it in a lake, they said.
Yogesh and Suraj were having some dispute over money, sources said.
The accused, who have been sent to a remand home for juveniles, are also involved in other crimes like stealing bikes, they said.
Police have recovered the body and sent it for post mortem, said Inspector Gopal Ranjankar.
