New Delhi: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have taken India to an unassailable 3-0 lead over Japan in their Davis Cup tie in Delhi.
The former World No. 1 Indian pair beat the Japanese pair of Suzuki and Iwabuchi 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in four hard fought sets.
With this win, India have qualified for a play-off to be part of the prestigious world group. It will be the first time that India has reached as far since 2005.
India had taken a 2-0 lead on Friday when Rohan Bopanna and Prakash Amritraj had won their singles matches. The reverse singles on Sunday are now irrelevant.
