Left, BJP protest fuel price hike

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The strike called in the Left ruled states to protest the fuel price hike was complete. Kolkata in particular saw a total shutdown all flights were grounded- and university examinations cancelled.

There was much tamasha in BJP ruled states with leaders riding bullock carts to make their point.

There was total shut down in Kolkata during the bandh called by Left parties . Roads were deserted and no public transport operated.

All schools and colleges were closed and the examinations of the Calcutta University and Jadhavpur University postponed. The bandh also seriously affected air and rail traffic.

In Kerala where there was a 12 hour hartal, life did not come to a total standstill though all shops were shut. But air and rail transport were operating normally. A few buses were running, but schools and colleges remained closed.

Rest of the country saw more colourful protests. The biggest tamasha was in Indore with BJP leaders Venkiah Naidu and Sushma Swaraj riding bullock carts claming that if fuel prices are not checked, this is how people will have to travel in the near future.

In Madhya Pradhesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan peddled his way around Bhopal trying to make the same point.
