Left needs brave front to save Third Front

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The exit polls had predicted the Third Front would come a distant third.

The Left may buy those numbers but the projections do make his Front partners vulnerable to poaching.

Already TRS has made its first move to the saffron camp and a cowering Kumaraswamy has knocked at the Sonia Gandhi’s door. The first task before Prakash Karat is to keep his flock together.

If he manages to do so, he'll make his best effort to bring over fence sitters like the NCP.

It is now clear that Nitish Kumar has spurned the Left overtures. The Left will then try to force the Congress's hand to support the Third formation.

But an indication of the Plan B of the Left came through when Prakash Karat told CNN-IBN that they will not support a Congress led government but will not allow the BJP to exploit the post-poll numbers to form a government either.

This, sources say, means that the Left could be open to the option of allowing a Congress-led minority government like the 1991 Narasimha Rao regime as CNN-IBN had first reported.

Viewed from the Left perspective, it's advantage UPA.
