New Delhi: The Left parties are the pivot of Third Front and apart from them the Telugu Desam Party is the only party which is loyal to the Front. On the other hand Telangana Rashtriya Samithi can switch sides and will back whoever supports a separate Telangana state.
AIADMK will also take a final decision after the Lok Sabha election results are out. Bahuajan Samaj party is close to Third Front but not part of it and while Janata Dal (Secular) is publicly loyal, but it is privately accused of a tacit understanding with the Congress in Karnataka.
JD(S) chief Deve Gowda is unwilling to commit to a prime ministerial candidate and so also the Left which says the field is open.
"I am not at all in the race. I don't want to make any comment on all these things," said Gowda.
Communist Party of India General Secretary AB Bardhan said that finding a prime ministerial candidate won't be difficult for the Third Front.
"She (Jayalalithaa) said the same thing about Mayawati. What she only says and what I will repeat is we have sufficient prime ministerial material in our front... all very experienced political workers who have been chief ministers for decades. They are very experienced people but who will be the prime minister will be decided by consensus," said Bardhan.
However, the Congress said the situation would be become clear after the elections.
"The point is she is present in only one state in India that is Tamil Nadu. What will the situation that will emerge after the elections is still to be seen. How she is in a position to support a candidate who is an ally of the Congress party? Pawar himself says he is not in the running. He said categorically that he cannot deem to be the prime minister because he is small party. With such numbers he cannot hope to the prime minister," said Congress spokesperson Kapil Sibal.
Meanwhile, a day after All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J Jayalalithaa proposed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar for prime minister's post, the Maharashtra leader said the chances of the Third Front forming the government is unlikely.
"We will not reach the magic figure. One has to see that we reach near the magic figure. If anybody is praising me why should I say no? If anybody is saying I am a competent person, I should be happy. But I should know whether I will get the opportunity to show my competence," said Pawar hinting that the Third Front may play a role in government formation after the Lok Sabha elections.
