ALAPPUZHA: Adequate legislation is needed to tackle the issues being faced by nurses in the state, said S Balaraman, chairman of the committee constituted to study the problems of the nurses in the private sector in the state.

He was speaking to reporters after holding  a sitting of the committee here on Tuesday. The condition of the nurses in private hospitals is pathetic. The committee held  sittings in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.

The nurses who attended the sitting shared the problems being faced by them at the private hospitals. Balaraman observed that most of the nurses feared the hospital owners.

â€śAbout 35,000 to 50,000 nurses are working in private hospitals. The committee will submit its report in two months,” said Balaraman.
