A 17-year-old boy was attacked by a leopard in Basapura village in HD Kote taluk on Wednesday. Naganayaka, son of Kadanayaka, was grazing sheep on the outskirts of the village bordering Nagarahole forest at around 4.15 pm when the leopard hiding behind a bush suddenly pounced on him.
The boy escaped with bruises and managed to reach the village following which he was shifted to the Government Hospital in H D Kote in an ambulance. He is out of danger.
Elephant Found Dead
A 55-year-old male elephant was found dead with its tusks stolen in the forest about 2 km away from Lingapura tribal hamlet in Periyapatna taluk in the district on Wednesday. The post mortem revealed that it died a natural death 3-4 days ago, following which the tusks were removed.
No bullets were recovered. It is suspected to be the handiwork of professional ivory thieves.
