LeT terror head roams free, India fears more hits

New Delhi: Seven months since the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks and barely two days after Pakistan freed its mastermind and Lashkar chief Hafiz Saeed, there are intelligence reports of another possible attack on India.
Reports suggest that unlike the inputs ahead of the November 26 attack, the intelligence this time around is a lot more specific and points directly to the Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Intelligence officials say the so-called Hindu targets are on top of the list. They add that south Indian states are particularly vulnerable, because LeT leaders are known to be working on plans to attack soft targets in these states.
That militants like Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah were able to plan the attacks even when they were in prison raises serious questions about Pakistan's commitment to fighting terror.
Apart from the obvious threat, India is worried that another attack on this scale would put serious pressure to take a military stance.
In the meantime, Pakistan authorities are also under pressure to appeal Hafiz’s release. Both Washington and New Delhi have been putting pressure on Islamabad to act.

Pressing Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice, the United States says it wants to make sure that Islamabad is acting aggressively against extremist elements within its borders.
"Well, we continue to impress upon the Government of Pakistan the importance of bringing the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice," Assistant Secretary of State, Philip J Crowley told reporters on Wednesday.
"We believe the Government of Pakistan should continue its investigation to ensure that all those who are responsible for the attack are, in fact, brought to justice," he said when asked to comment on the release of Hafiz Saeed, the suspected mastermind of the November 2008 attacks.
