Let's 'knot' forget Sino-Indian love

Beijing: Here is perhaps the best example of the booming Sino-Indian partnership.

Sagnik Roy, the only Indian director of the China based Yongtong group holds a very special place in the land of dragon.

Roy is one of the few Indian sons-in-law China is proud to have.

“You need moral support and that’s unlike other European countries where there is a large Indian community,” Roy says.

As a student who visited China on a cultural exchange programme way back in 1990, Roy stayed back for his love Weng Ta Lee and for the great opportunities the country had to offer.

Today the Yongtong Group owns 33 textile units, jade quarries and is jointly owned by Sagnik, his wife, his in-laws and a few family friends

Married for almost 15 years, Roy and his wife have managed to overcome cultural and social hurdles, more efficiently than any diplomatic parleys.

Making their own unique adjustments, the couple survived the tough times.

He learnt Chinese and now translates for her and she’s added Indian delicacies to her culilnary skills.

"Things are open and modern in China. It’s a human relation. China has accepted everyone into its fold,” Weng Ta Lee says.
