New Delhi: The Prime Minister has a vision for Bihar. And he thought it most fitting to unveil this vision at a congregation of a 1,200-strong Indian Diaspora at the fifth Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in New Delhi on Sunday.
Inaugurating the event, the PM said if people, whose roots lay in Bihar, could contribute in such a big way towards the making of modern Mauritius, it should be possible to transformed Bihar into a Mauritius as well.
"When I was in Mauritius, I asked some of the Mauritian people whose ancestors hailed from Bihar for the same to make a Mauritius out of Bihar," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister obviously had in mind the large number of Biharis settled in Mauritius, who are in Delhi to take part in the three-day event.
"I could say the same thing about other parts of the country. When we see Sikh farmers creating agricultural wealth in the trying climes of Canada, we wonder how much more our farmers from Punjab are capable of," the Prime Minister said.
Dr Singh hoped the people in India could work together to create an environment in which the best of every Indian could find its
fullest expression. "I want every Indian living and working in India to aspire for the global recognition that a Zubin Mehta, a Lakshmi Mittal, an Amartya Sen or a Kalpana Chawla when they go overseas," he added.
