New Delhi: Three days after winning the Olympic gold in shooting Abhinav Bindra came back home late on Thursday evening to a hero's welcome.
He's had a power-packed schedule on Thursday for he met many VIPs throughout the day.
Bindra’s calm exterior from the airport was a total contrast to all the frenzy around him.
Indian sports' latest poster-boy, Abhinav Bindra reached New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday morning and while the rest of the city slept his fans turned up at the international airport to give a grand welcome to the golden boy.
“I am very happy to be back home. This is not just my victory but India's victory, so we must all celebrate it,” said Bindra.
Immediately after that he got started on his exhaustive itinerary. After a quick meeting with the Union Sports Minister M S Gill , Bindra met President Pratibha Patil.
Already an Arjuna and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, this was not his first time at the Rashrapati Bhawan. But the difference was that this time Bindra had an Olympic gold medal in his hand.
“She was very kind and gracious.and extremely appreciative of my efforts. She blessed me,” said Bindra after meeting the President.
Later he also met Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Bindra said that soon after the celebrations he would like to take some time off.
“I want to contribute and give back to the Indian sports movement. I dedicate this award to my fellow athletes who should not believe that it is a possibility. Lets make winning a habit,” said India’s first-ever individual gold medal winner Bindra.
