Mumbai: The three-day turmoil in Mumbai has finally ended and Café Leopold which took the first few bullets of this mass terror attack is now going back to its normal life. The customers are now coming back to this historic place to grab their favourite dishes.
“They were two boys standing outside for a long time as if they were waiting for someone or a call and then they threw hand grenade here and started shooting. They did not stay here for too long because they were in a hurry to get to Taj otherwise the casualties would have been more,” says Café Leopold part owner Farhang Jehani.
Few customers including two of the staff members died while many were injured.
Fahrang and another part owner Café Leopold Farzad Jehani collected each belonging, fixed all holes and worked tirelessly to get this place back on track.
But there is more to this place than just this terror attack, a heritage and fame like none other.
Built in 1871, Café Leopold has been on the list of every visitor to Mumbai since then. The book on Shantaram describes Leopold's little world as, "a world of light, colour and richly paneled wood.”
“In fact, Shantaram and his wife called to ask us if everything was alright,” says Farzad.
It is probably this love and loyalty of their age old customers that has got them back in action just three days after the attack.
Café Leopold has been etched into the memories of many and has survived the test of time just like this century old wall clock.
