New Delhi: Just eight days after the Home Ministry banned pre-paid connections in the Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister of the state, Omar Abdullah said that pre-paid connectivity must start again immediately with security checks or else the ban will prove to be a punishment for genuine users.
Omar Abdullah said, “There should be no blanket ban on prepaid SIM cards for cell-phones.. rather than a ban. The Home Ministry needs to tackle the issue in such a way that the required checks and balances should be performed but the general population is not made to suffer.”
Earlier, the Home Ministry decided to neither issue new connections nor renew existing ones after November 1.
The step came in wake of reports about proper verification not being done while providing such pre-paid mobile connections by the service providers.
Jammu and Kashmir has more than 30 lakh subscribers who use pre-paid connection.
