Light-intensity quake hits Mumbai, western Maharashtra

Mumbai: Mumbai and parts of western Maharashtra experienced earthquake of light intensity this evening with Koyna as epicentre.

The earthquake with a magnitude 5.0 on the Richter scale occurred at 17 hours 21 mts and 24 seconds, the Met office here said.

The earthquake originated at Koyna region at latitude of 17.2 degree North and Longitude of 73.8 deg East, Met office said.

Tremors were felt in Sangli, Osmanabad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts and minor shocks were felt in Mumbai suburbs.

There were no immediate reports of any damage to life or property due to the quake, sources said.

In Mumbai, a number of people felt the mild tremors, and came out of their buildings and the weather office and the the police control room received several calls.
