Vilnius, Lithuania: The first edition of the Lithuanian Playboy magazine hit news stands in the Baltic state on Friday marking off the US-based publication's 25th foreign language spin off.
Ukrainian playmate Darja Astafjeva (pronounced DAR-YA ASTA-FAA-YEEVA) revealed the first issue of the magazine at the launch party. Her photos have previously been printed in
Ukraine's Playboy.
It is the 25th country to launch its own version of the popular men's
magazine, Lithuanian chief editor, Liudas Dapkus said.
"We are hoping for the great success, because until now Lithuanian
men didn't have such honourable and a well managed men's magazine,"
Dapkus said at the launch party on Thursday (October 23) night.
The first Lithuanian cover girl, business woman Asta Valentaite, said
she did not hesitate when asked to pose for the magazine.
"Because Playboy magazine is a new thing in Lithuania, and I am
sure this cover will make history," she said.
"I was the first girl in Ukraine to pose for Playboy, and today I
am especially delighted because my pictures made it into the first Lithuanian
edition as well," she said.
The men's magazine costs 9 litas (2.6 euros).
Vilnius resident, Rimvydas said he thought the magazine would become
popular.
"I think this magazine will get its readership. Why do you have to
read it in Russian or English, when you can do it in Lithuanian? It's
wonderful, thanks for the choice," he said.
Another resident, Dovile, said it was not for her.
"They can have Playboy, but I am not going to read it. I read
women's magazines. As for Playboy, I don't care whether it exists," she
said.
Lithuania is the second Baltic state to get a national edition of the
magazine. Playboy has been in print in Estonia since 2007.
