Mumbai: 6:19 pm: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray with full state honours in Mumbai. As part of the state funeral for him Mumbai Police conducted a 21-gun salute.

3:46pm: Police Band reaches Shivaji Park.

3.07 pm: Funeral procession reaches Sena Bhavan. Lakhs of supporters present to pay their homage.

2.28 pm: Funeral procession inches closer to Sena Bhavan, is likely to reach there in another half an hour.

2.00 pm: Funeral procession reaches Matunga, a Shiv Sena stronghold. Huge crowds present on the roads. Funeral procession will proceed to Sena Bhavan next.

1.05 pm: Raj Thackeray has reached his residence. He will come to Shivaji Park a little later.

12.52 pm: Late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's son Uddhav breaks down en route to Shivaji Park.

12.02 pm: Huge crowds present at Sena Bhawan, which will be the last stop before the funeral procession heads to Shivaji Park.

10.58 am: Sources say Raj Thackeray is taking a different route from the procession, choosing to walk along with his supporters to the cremation venue.

10.56 am: All leaves of police personnel have been reportedly cancelled.

10.15 am: Lakhs of supporters follow the hearse. Mumbai comes to a virtual halt as the supporters flank the whole 6 km stretch of the funeral procession route.

9.58 am: The bereaved Thackeray family is reportedly being accompanied by several Sena leaders including Manohar Joshi, Diwakar Raote, party spokesperson Sanjay Raut, Neelam Gorhe, Vinayak Raut, Anil Desai, Subhash Desai, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, among others.

9.56 am: State Protocol

Minister Suresh Shetty says that the state government has announced that Thackeray will be accorded a state funeral.

9.49 am: Sources say MNS chief Raj Thackeray is not on the hearse, but is travelling ahead of the hearse in a separate vehicle.

9.32 am: Funeral procession begins. Body to be taken shortly to Shivaji Park.

9.20 am: Bal Thackeray's body, covered with the national flag, placed on the hearse.

9.10 am: Sena chief Bal Thackeray's body brought out of Matoshree wrapped in saffron-coloured party flag. Son Uddhav Thackeray and grandson Aditya accompany the hearse. The funeral procession will begin shortly.

8.37 am: Security arrangements: At Matoshree: 3 SRPF Companies and one Rapid Action Force Company present; Across Mumbai: Close to 15 companies of SRPF, 3 RAF companies deployed; Quick Response Teams (armed units) also on standby.

8.32 am: Taxis and autos stay off roads.

8.30 am: Around 20,000 policemen stand guard along the funeral procession route from Matoshree to Shivaji Park.

8.21 am: Cinema halls across Mumbai remain shut. Sources say CBSE Central Teacher Eligibility Test in Mumbai has been postponed.

8.10 am: Cable blocked in some parts of Mumbai.

8.06 am: MNS chief and nephew of the late Sena chief, Raj Thackeray reaches Matoshree along with his wife.

8.00 am: Bal Thackeray's body to be cremated at Shivaji Park.

7.51 am: Cable operators are likely to black out general entertainment channels and movies till 5 pm on Sunday, say sources.

7.40 am: Tight security at the Thackerays' residence. RAF teams on standby.

7.30 am: Funeral procession to begin from Matoshree shortly.

Bal Thackeray, the founder and commander in chief of the Shiv Sena, is no more. The 86-year-old who was battling for life for nearly a week, was declared dead on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm. The city of Mumbai has virtually shut down. The funeral procession began at 7 am on Sunday. The last rites were held in the evening.

Bal Thackeray's condition had worsened in July this year. According to the doctors, his demise happened at 3:30 pm on Saturday. As news of him being critical spread, Sena workers slowly started gathering outside his residence in Bandra, Matoshree. The announcement of his death was made at 5 pm by his long time physician.

Immediately, security was increased across the state and Shiv Sena leaders appealed for calm. Shops downed their shutters across Mumbai upon hearing the news.

Thackeray's body was taken from Matoshree to Shivaji Park for the last rites. His body was kept for darshan at Shivaji Park from 9 am to 5 pm. The funeral rites were held at 6 pm. Massive crowds gathered at Shivaji Park. Police had advised Mumbaikars against venturing out unless it's absolutely necessary.

Routes to avoid: Mumbai Police traffic advisory

Veer Savakar Road, Annie Besant Road and Mori Road, among others, are off bounds between 6 am and 10 pm tonight. No traffic will be allowed on these roads.

Meanwhile, no parking will be allowed on Ranade Road and NC Kelkar Road among others.
