Live updates from day three of the first Test between New Zealand and England at the University Oval, Dunedin.
New Zealand, 1st innings:
Umpires have taken the final decision for the day. They have understood that no further play is possible today and it is stumps for the day. The debutant Hamish Rutherford's ton puts New Zealand in a very strong position. Brendon McCullum is still there in the crease and New Zealand will look to score some quick runs tomorrow and put England to bat again. At this point, New Zealand are on top.
End of over 108: 402 for 7 Another 17 runs have been added in five overs, but the bad light has stopped play. Umpires have measured the conditions and realized that light is too low and a drizzle is going on. The pitch has been covered and players went off the field. McCullum is batting on 44 and Bruce Martin is on 17. New Zealand are currently leading by 235.
End of over 103: 385 for 7 (Tea) The second session went England's way after the second new ball was taken by Cook. New Zealand lost five wickets but lead by 218 runs with McCullum batting on 35 and Bruce Martin on 9.
End of over 100: 370 for 7 Tim Southee's little breezy knock of 25 was ended by Broad. Southee goes for a full swing and misses completely the full pitched delivery that knocks back the stumps. New Zealand are losing wickets now but the lead has gone past 200.
End of over 97: 354 for 6 It's hard to curb the attacking instincts of Brendon McCullum and he also doesn't prefers playing the waiting game. Finn faces the brunt as the Kiwi captain thrashes him for three boundaries. 12 runs conceded in this over.
End of over 94: 330 for 6 Disciplined bowling from Broad finally pays off. BJ Watling failed to judge where his off stump was and left the incoming ball from Broad to find his off stump knocked back.
End of over 93: 321 for 5 James Anderson is on a roll at the moment as he picks up his fourth wicket. Brownlie gets rooted to the crease and was played on to a delivery that shaped in a bit from off.
End of over 91: 315 for 4 Ross Taylor's breezy 31 off 57 balls comes to an end. Taylor goes for the cut shot off a full pitched ball and gets a thick edge to second slip where Jonathan Trott doesn't make a mistake.
End of over 81: 271 for 3 The new ball does the trick for England as Anderson ends a brilliant debut innings of Rutherford for 171. The ball just stopped on Rutherford and he played the shot early to pop an easy catch to midwicket. However, the new batsman at the crease Dean Brownlie got a reprieve when a thick outside edge was dropped by Joe Root at third slip.
End of over 77: 255 for 2 (Lunch) Cook throws the ball to Finn for one over before lunch, but the New Zealand batsmen see it through safely. Rutherford batting on 167 and Taylor on 1 with a lead of 88 runs.
End of over 74: 249 for 2 Monty Panesar gets rewarded for his patience after going for runs in his last over. Kane Williamson (24) tries to cut expecting the ball to turn but it slides straight to castle the stumps. But at the other end Rutherford is going strong.
End of over 72: 243 for 1 Oh boy! There is no stopping Rutherford and what a way to reach 150 off a six. Panesar pitches the ball up and Rutherford steps down and launches it over wide long-off. Then the third ball also disappears over the rope in the same direction and this time more flatter.
End of over 65: 209 for 1 Anderson replaces Broad and gives away 14 runs. Rutherford after the drinks break lifted the tempo of his game and slammed three boundaries. Two fours came off excellent cover drives and the last from a backfoot cut shot through gully. Cook now has to think differently.
End of over 59: 180 for 1 Now that's drinks break with nothing much happening for England. Though New Zealand are looking good and have taken 13-run lead.
End of over 52: 166 for 1 The debutants for New Zealand are having a great Test outing. Rutherford plays a scorching cover drive off Finn to bring up his maiden century. From overnight 77 the youngster just raced to the three-figure score in no time.
End of over 51: 158 for 1 James Anderson finally gives England their first breakthrough by getting the wicket of Peter Fulton for 55 caught by Matt Prior behind the wickets. Anderson pitches it up and Fulton goes for the drive and gets an inside edge.
End of over 49: 156 for 0 Hamish Rutherford and Peter Fulton are playing more freely with no help for the English bowlers off the pitch. Meanwhile, Fulton reaches a well-made half-century.
Day 2: The seond day completely belonged to New Zealand as Neil Wagner and debutant Bruce Martin took four wickets each to bundle out England for 167.
Coming out to bat both the Kiwi openers put up an unbeaten century run stand to frustrate the visitors even more. At stumps New Zealand were 131 for no loss with openers Hamish Rutherford (77) and Peter Fulton (46) remaining unbeaten at the crease.
