But what is it that can change simple looking ordinary folk into devils. Could it be split personality, something which has intrigued us for a long time.
Eve had three faces, Sybil housed 16 personalities within herself they had, what medical practice calls Dissociative Personality disorder, we know it was a split personality.
Max Healthcare Senior Psychiatrist Dr Samir Parikh says, “In split personality mind uses different mechanism. When there is trouble it uses a strategy to deal with the stress. Some people dissociate, which means your unitary sense of self dissociates. Rather than having own unitary sense of self it dissociates from person A to person B in terms of the alters.”
Unlike schizophrenia, in Multiple personality disorder or MPD the self does not disintegrate completely.
It comes together or reintegrates as different alters.
These co-conscious personalities are completely different person who may be of different sex, age and nationality from the main self and each other.
While the alters are aware of each others' presence and of the main personality, the main self is not aware of these alters.
Though an intriguing phenomena, MPD is a rare disorder that is commonly confused with schizophrenia.
