CHENNAI: Chaos reigned in Thiruvanmiyur from around 10 pm as several groups from different areas resorted to a road roko at two different places to protest long hours of power cuts on Thursday. As a result traffic was completely thrown out of gear on all arterial roads in the area for nearly an hour.
Residents complained the area was suffering lengthy power cuts on a daily basis in addition to the two hours of load shedding. TNEB officials, who were trying to pacify the crowds, said their main supply line from Tharamani was down and in the absence of a basic supply there was little that they could do.
Irate residents thronged the local TNEB offices and sent phones ringing to their elected officials. While local MLA M K Ashok was away, Corporation councillor Usha Kumar reached the spot and tried to ease the situation. Despite all efforts, officials said power cut would extend till 3.30 am.
