A shopkeeper in area says, "Over here people have lost Rs 80 to Rs 90 lakh worth of property. I myself have lost Rs 25 lakh worth."
Small shops, which were burnt by rioters on Monday night, are still smouldering and smoke is still billowing out of them. The tension in the area has subsided only to be reduced to an uneasy calm.
Three companies of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed in the area to ensure peace, but locals blame the police for reacting late and then firing indiscreetly.
"All this would not have happened if the police would have reacted efficiently on time," says a resident of the area.
However the police have a different version.
Thane Joint Commissioner (Law and Order), Madhu Shinde says, "Our personnel have done a good job and effectively intervened on time."
But questions are still being raised as to why the riots erupted in an area so close to a local police station.
