Pune: Far from home and far from his fans, Sanjay Dutt spent a sleepless night at the Yerwada Jail on Thursday as his fans waited outside to get a glimpse of their Munnabhai.

At present, Dutt is in an 'Anda cell', which is a high-security cell with no windows and very little access to other prisoners.

But Dutt has found a purpose to dedicate his six years of jail life. The Bollywood star looks to play a real-life Munnabhai, studying and teaching Gandhigiri in the prison where the Mahatma, too, had spent six years of his life.

Just three days into his jail term, Munnabhai has discovered that the jail is the best place to practise the famous Gandhigiri that he had propagated through his movie Lage Raho Munnabhai.

Dutt has asked the Yerwada Jail authorities to grant him permission to join the Gandhi Vichar Pariksha course in the jail. This novel course teaches Gandhian ideology to the inmates.

Sanjay wants to do the one-year course and possibly teach the same to other jail inmates as well. The voluntary programme run by an NGO was started four years back.

Jail inmates attend lectures and are issued books on Gandhiji.Meanwhile, Dutt is soon likely to be assigned some prison work, which may include textiles, laundry, baking, paper printing, carpentry or painting.

As a prisoner serving rigorous imprisonment, Dutt needs to work in the jail and earn his living. The Yerwada Jail, which has a vast sprawling campus, has some fields around it where the convicts do farming to earn a living.

Sanjay Dutt will soon be given a similar job by the prison authorities.According to jail sources, Dutt will undergo an 'aptitude test' for authorities to ascertain his preferences before he is allotted work.

The 48-year-old star, who was brought to Yerwada jail from Mumbai on Wednesday night, will be asked about his choices and preferences before he is allotted manual work as part of the rigorous imprisonment.
