New Delhi: Continuing with its tradition of putting up a new sport-specific doodle on its home page everyday during the Olympic Games, Google has started off with a London 2012 archery doodle.

The London 2012 archery doodle is the second Google doodle this Olympics. On Friday Google put up its London 2012 Opening Ceremony doodle that showed five athletes on the track holding the letters of the Google logo. The Olympic disciplines depicted on the Google Olympics opening ceremony doodle were football, swimming, running/jumping, javelin throw, fencing and basketball.

The archery doodle shows a female archer taking aim at a bullseye, the target is strategically placed over the middle 'o' on the Google logo painted on the wall.

The London 2012 archery doodle is the first of the sport-specific doodles this Olympics.

Google's daily Olympic doodle tradition began back in 2000 during the Sydney Olympics and continued through the 2002 Winter Olympics (Salt Lake City, USA), 2004 Athens Olympics, 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Saturday's Google doodle is the third archery doodle posted by Google during the Olympic Games. The first was in Sydney 2000 and the other during Athens 2004. Google didn't post an archery doodle during Beijing 2008.

The archery events for the London Olympics began on Friday, before the opening ceremony. The archery events will continue till August 3. Archery had its debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics and has been contested in 14 Olympiads. Archery was dropped from the games after London 1908, and then returned for a single appearance in 1920. The sport was reintroduced to the Olympics in Munich 1972 after a gap of 52-years

The archery events at the London Olympics are being held at Lord's Cricket Ground. There are four medal events - men's Individual, women's Individual, men's Team and women's Team.

In all 128 competitors (64 men and 64 women) are participating the archery events at London 2012. Each country is limited to six athletes (three men and three women).
