Ranchi: It's been a harrowing week for the families of the policemen who were abducted by the Maoists. The killing of one of the officer, Lucas Tete, has only made them more anxious.

The three families are desperate for any news even as they pray for the safety of the hostages.

Sulemaan, Havaldar Mohammad Ehsaan's son said: "I am waiting for papa."

Eight-year-old Sulemaan is trying hard to console his mother, giving her hope that his father would return home safe for Eid. But as news of Tete's death reached Goregaon in Ranchi, the thought of a similar fate awaiting Ehsaan broke the silence of the house.

Farida Khanam, Ehsaan's wife, said: "How can I have patience, it's dark all around. I have faith on god."

Ehsaan's father offered the Friday prayers with other villagers and also appealed to the government to show urgency. "The government should fulfill their demands," Moinuddin Khan said.

Abhay Prasad Yadav's family in Patna is praying for his safety. The parents of the third hostage Rupesh Kumar Sinha, a trainee Sub-Inspector from Bettiah, are waiting for the return of their sole breadwinner. But for one family the chapter is closed.

Tete's daughter Anjela's humble plea to the Maoists has been denied. And as she signs to take her father's body, she hopes Sulemaan may not have to undergo the same tragedy.
