Judgement on warrant against Dera’s Head; Hearing in 7/11serial blasts; BJP launches 40 day campaign
Judgement on warrant against Dera’s Head:
A court in Bhatinda will pass orders on Wednesday on a Punjab police application seeking an arrest warrant against the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda, Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Clashes between Sikhs and the sect erupted on May 14, a day after an advertisement appeared in local newspapers, showing sect leader dressed up in clothes similar to that worn by Guru Gobind Singh. This had angered the Sikh community.
Skirmishes between rival groups flared into mob violence when the Akal Takht —the top body of Sikh clergies urged the community to boycott the sect
A case was registered against Singh on May 20 but the court had said on Monday that police did not have enough evidence to seek an arrest warrant.
Hearing in 7/11serial blasts:
The framing of charges in the 7/11 serial train blasts case will start from Wednesday. The charges will be framed by the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court against 13 accused in the case.
The Anti-Terrorist Squad had filed a charge sheet against 28 people, but only 13 have been arrested. Ten of the arrested people are allegedly linked to the banned Students Islamic Movement of India organisation, or SIMI.
BJP launches 40 day campaign:
The Bharatiya Janata Party will launch a 40-day campaign in Telangana from Wednesday to highlight the need for bifurcation of the State before the 2009 Assembly elections.
Senior state BJP leaders have said that district-wise conventions and jeep yatras would be organised in several villages.
Later a thousand-strong group of activists would go by train to New Delhi to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging the Centre to introduce a bill in Parliament on Telangana.
