Supreme Court to hear two petitions on the Gurjar agitations today; PIL challenging Section 19 of Prevention of Corruption Act regarding the Taj Corridor Scam to be heard by the supreme court ; Karnataka high court to take decision on derecognition of nearly 2000 schools in the state.

Petitions on Gurjar agitations:

The Supreme Court will hear two petitions on the Gurjar agitations on Monday.

The apex court had taken suo moto cognizance of the clashes and issued notices to the Directors General of Police of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police Commissioner and asked them to file affidavits with an Action Taken Report (ATR) against the protestors.

It will also hear a petition filed by the Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Samaj seeking a CBI enquiry into police action during the agitation.

PIL against Prevention of corruption Act In Taj Corridor Scam:

Days after the Governor T V Rajeswar had refused to grant sanction to prosecute Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in the Rs 175 crore Taj Corridor scam holding that there was no prima facie case and that corruption and forgery charges against her does not stand scrutiny, the Supreme court will hear a PIL which challenges Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The section makes sanction a mandatory requirement for prosecuting CMs and other higher constitutional authorities.

Decision on derecognition of schools:

The Karnataka High Court will take a decision on the derecognition of nearly 2000 schools in the state. The schools were derecognised with effect from this academic year for violating the language policy of 1994. The schools were teaching in English when they only had state approval to teach in Kannada.
