Lookahead: What's making news today

New Delhi: Bypolls in the Palamau Lok Sabha constituency will be held on Thursday, Centre to resume talks with Naga leaders from the NSCN-IM on Thursday and the Jammu and Kashmir state cabinet will meet again on Thursday even as PDP has decided not to join the meet.

Palamau bypolls
Bypolls in the Palamau Lok Sabha constituency in Jharkhand will be held on Thursday amidst tight security.

The RJD sitting MP Manoj Kumar had lost his membership following the cash-for-query scandal.

Fifty five companies of paramilitary forces and police have been deployed in the constituency, which has been affected by Maoist violence in the past.

Naga talks
The second round of talks between the Government and Naga leaders from the NSCN-IM will begin on Thursday in the capital.

The talks are likely to centre around the demand for unification of Naga-inhabited areas in the northeast, and the fresh clashes between rival factions.

A seven-member team headed by Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah will represent the NSCN-IM.

Jammu and Kashmir state cabinet meet
The Jammu and Kashmir state cabinet will meet on Thursday in Jammu for the fourth time this month.

But the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which had boycotted the three previous meetings is set to boycott this meeting too.

The PDP postponed its Political Affairs Committee meeting yesterday after the Prime Minister asked PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed for more time for consultations on the demilitarisation issue.
