Lookahead: What's making news

Election Commission on Monday will deliver its verdict on the controversial BJP-CD issue, Uttar Pradesh enters its fourth phase of polling today and ISRO will launch its first fully commercial Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. Here is a look at what else is likely to make news through the day today.

Seedy issue

The Election Commission on Monday will deliver its verdict on the controversial BJP-CD issue. The commission will also decide whether the party should be de-recognised as a national party. BJP allegedly released an inflammatory CD while campaigning for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections last month. However, BJP chief Rajnath Singh is confident that de-recognising a party as big as BJP on the basis of the CD issue will not be possible.

PSLV launch today

The Indian Space Research Organisation will launch its first fully commercial Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C 8) today. PSLV will blast off from southern Sriharikota launch pad after a 42-hour countdown, which began on Saturday.

Vodafone-Hutch transaction today

The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) is expected to take a decision on the Vodafone-Hutch transaction today. FIPB's clearance is mandatory for the completion of this transaction.

FIPB will look into whether or not the shareholding pattern in Hutch-Essar is compliant with Foreign Direct Investment norms. The deal involved the sale of controlling stakes of mobile firm Hutch-Essar to UK's Vodafone by Hong Kong's Hutchison Telecom.

Fourth phase polling in UP

As Uttar Pradesh enters its fourth phase of polling today, Rahul Gandhi's road show is all set to enter Lucknow. This is the sixth leg of the road show, which started from his constituency Amethi. As Rahul reaches Lucknow, his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will head a public rally in the nearby Sultanpur constituency.

Woolmer controversy

The decision whether to handover Woolmer's body to his family or hold it for further investigation will be taken today. Jamaican Police has confirmed reports that Woolmer was poisoned before being strangled. However, the police hasn't yet identified the murderer but last week a British daily claimed that Woolmer's killer has been identified on CCTV footage.
