Looking South, talking IIFA

Chennai: The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Film Festival is looking south this year. The festival has decided to screen south Indian films for the first time.

The news has brought much cheer down south as Tamil superstar Rajnikanth - who is adulated, revered and even worshipped by his fans - makes his IIFA debut.

His blockbuster Chandramukhi, has been selected by the IIFA jury and will be screened at the film festival being held in Dubai from June 15 to June 17.

Directed by P Vasu, Chandramukhi was a runaway hit in the South and has been running in Chennai for over a year now.

"It is very nice that a southern language is going to join the IIFA Festival," P Vasu says.

But, Chandramukhi is not the only one to make it to IIFA. The Academy, as if to make up for lost time, will be showing as many as 14 south Indian films including Kannathil Muthamiltal, Nayakan, Gajini, Kaazhcha, 7G Brundavana Colony and Tagore, IIFA 2006.

The IIFA film festival will showcase 30 entries in all this year.
