New Delhi: The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry proposed new guidelines, giving sleepless nights to anxious parents who want to get their children admitted to nursery schools.
The seats for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) are likely to increase by 25 per cent. Some schools also have a management quota of upto 20 per cent. If the EWS quota is implemented, it would leave only 55 per cent of the seats for the general category.
The Right to Education Act bans any sort of screening of children during admissions. So both, schools and parents are at a loss to understand what the new process will be like for the next academic session. According to the HRD Ministry, students will be admitted by drawing lots.
"The admission forms are not out. I have no clue when the process will start," said Nidhi Kapoor, a parent, who tutors her four-year old son Raghav for his nursery admission.
The Ministry of Education was supposed to declare the new admission criteria by Monday, but that has now been delayed.
