Aussie woman shot at in Mathura

Mathura:The land of Lord Krishna was smeared red after an Australian woman was shot at by her Indian boyfriend outside the ISKON temple in Mathura on Saturday.

Nani Jordan or Leela came to India five years ago, seeking to serve Lord Krishna and had got a job at the Mathura temple in Vrindavan, where she worked until Saturday morning.

After being shot at, 22-year-old Leela is battling for her life in a hospital in Agra.

""Basically do goliyan hain jo nazar aa rahi hain. Oral cavity mein muh se goli maari gayi hai. Ek part brain ke pass scalp mein hai. Second bhi pass mein hain Basically she was shot at twice and we have located the two bullets. One is in the scalp near the brain while the other is also there)," Dr Jeevan of the Apollo Pankaj Hospital, Agra, said.

Leela's alleged shooter was a man named Saurabh alias Shanu, who subsequently shot himself dead.

Police say Saurabh was Leela's friend and lover, and the murder was a lover's tiff gone horribly wrong.

But Leela's brother denies the relationship. He says Saurabh had forced his way into their home.

"He came to our home, pointed the gun at me and broke into Leela's room. I heard them talking and suddenly heard gunshots," Leela's brother Anand said.

Saurabh is the nephew of former Uttar Pradesh minister Tejpal Singh. Police have seized a revolver and a car, and say investigations are still on.
