Lucknow: The Lucknow Police have registered an FIR against him self-styled godman Nirmal Baba. Nirmal Baba has been charged with cheating, fraud and impersonation under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The Police acted following a local court order based on a complaint filed by an 17-year-old. Tanya Thakur complained after watching the baba's TV show Nirmal Darbar in which he offers solutions to people's problems.
Sections under which Nirmal Baba has been charged:
- Nirmal Baba has been charged with cheating under Sec 417 of the IPC
- Nirmal Baba has been charged with impersonation under Sec 419 of the IPC
- Nirmal Baba has been charged with fraud under Sec 420 of the IPC
- Nirmal Baba has been charged under Sec 508 for misleading people
Who is Nirmal Baba?
Nirmal Baba is a businessman-turned-self-styled godman based in Delhi. His original name is Nirmaljeet Singh Narula. He is the brother-in-law of former Jharkhand Speaker and BJP MP Inder Singh Namdhari.
Nirmal Baba offers solutions to his devotees' problems on his TV show Nirmal Darbar. Reports say he charges devotees Rs 2000 to attend his 'samagam' meetings and has a turnover of Rs 235 crore.
Nirmal Baba used to own a brick kiln before he became a self-proclaimed spiritual figure. He is named in numerous cheating cases.
