THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On the second death anniversary of Madhavikutty, the women writers and artists in the city organised a commemoration event to pay obeisance to the celebrated writer on Tuesday evening.
In an informal get-together, befitting of the impulsive spirit of the author, participants shared their memories and impressions of Kamala Das and her seminal writings that turned the tide in favour of a liberated genre of women’s writing in Malayalam.
Organised by Network of Women in Media and Women Writers’ Forum, the meeting was held at Lenin Balavadi, Vazhuthacaud. "Last year, we organised a reading of Madhavikutty’s works to mark the day. This time, we thought we will read our own writings as a tribute to the great author,” said Gita Nazeer, convener of the Writers’ Forum.
Poet Sugathakumari opened the reading session, which was followed up with readings by Chandramathi, Gita Nazeer, Sara Thomas, Savitri Rajeevan, Sarita Varma, C S Chandrika, and others and a performance by theatre artist P Sreelatha.
Artist Sajitha Shankar paid her respects by placing a large portrait of the legendary author she had done as the background of the venue.
