New Delhi: Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, who faces charges of laundering Rs 2,500 to 4,000 crore, was on Sunday discharged from a hospital in Ranchi. Koda was interrogated by the Income Tax (IT) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials.
The former Jharkhand CM had been admitted since November 3, ever since after complaining of severe stomach ache.
Duly certified by doctors as fit to leave the hospital, he left the hospital around 1145 hrs IST.
The authorities had to ensure that heavy security arrangements were in place as hundreds of Koda supporters had gathered at the Apollo hospital in Ranchi. Koda was then taken to his official residence in Ranchi.
This residence had been partly sealed on November 5. Koda's arrival at his home was followed by the IT and the ED officials, who reached there to interrogate him.
But Koda maintains that he is being framed and he is innocent.
" I have done no wrong. I am being framed," Koda said.
But investigators looking into the case argue that this is just a lame defence from Koda.
In fact, immediately after Koda was discharged from the hospital, Income Tax sleuths got back to the business of interrogating him.
The DG of IT, A K Srivastav said, "We will interrogate him the moment we get the go ahead from hospital."
CNN-IBN has learnt that their questioning on Sunday was based on some confessional statements made by SK Naredi, the PA of Koda's close aide Binod Sinha.
Naredi was the one who used to keep a detailed account of all payments made to individuals by the associates of Koda.
Investigators are looking at subjecting Koda to a Narco test as well, say reports.
Koda is to appear before the ED in Delhi on November 11, 2009.
Investigators also claim to have acquired crucial leads linking two Bollywood actresses to the entire scam.
It has come as a shock to many that Koda was not arrested on Sunday. Initially, ED authorities had gone on record suggesting that Koda was to be arrested the moment he gets discharged from hospital.
