Ranchi: Geeta Koda, the wife of graft-tainted former chief minister Madhu Koda on Wednesday won the Assembly election from Jagganthpur constituency defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Sonaram Biruwa.
Geeta Koda secured 28,437 votes and defeated Biruwa by over 8,000 votes. She dedicated her victory to her husband, who is at the center of Rs 2,500 crore money laundering scam.
"It is the victory of my husband. This is the victory of the people and it is also the victory of honesty of Madhu Koda," Geeta Koda said.
Another former minister Enos Ekka, who too is in jail on graft charges, also won from Kolebera Assembly constitution. He secured 27,327 votes and defeated Mahendra Bhagat of the BJP by over 7,000 votes.
Janata Dal-United (JD-U) state president Jaleshwar Mahto lost to Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Pajatantrik's Dullu Mahto by over 10,000 votes from Baghmara constituency.
