Madonna on top for breaking rules

New Delhi: When it comes to breaking rules nobody does it better than the queen of reinvention – Madonna. So it is no surprise that she sits pretty on the top of MTV's list of top 100 music videos that 'broke the rules’.

The Material girl is on top with the 1989 hit Like a Prayer which features her seducing a black Jesus and a backdrop of burning crosses. The video was widely condemned by Christian organisations when it was released. Other Madonna videos Ray Of Light and Vogue figure at number four and five.

Coming a close second is Britney Spears’ raunchy schoolgirl act Hit Me Baby One More Time. The video raised eyebrows but catapulted Britney to pop superstardom.

When it comes to breaking rules, the erstwhile King of Pop can’t be far behind. Michael Jackson's Thriller is placed third on the list for being the longest music video. The release of the 13-minute video in 1983 was a global news event.

Also figuring on the list is Robbie Williams' Rock DJ at number seven. The video features the pop star peeling off his own skin.

Then came Eric Prydz's Call On Me without which one’s day at the gym was never the same again. The music video which dominated dancefloors when it was released in 2004, features on number eight video.

Also, on the list are the Spice Girls at number 10 with their 1996 chartbuster Wannabe the most requested music video ever on a cable channel.
